FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IF I DON’T THINK I CAN BE A VOLUNTEER?

Individuals of all kinds and with various interests are needed. If you have a desire to help, contact the RSVP office and the staff will find a place that needs you and that you would like to help in.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL BE REQUIRED?

Each individual will decide how much time they have to devote to volunteer assistance. In situations where ongoing help is needed, a regular time is encouraged, but a schedule will be designed for whatever time the volunteer wishes to help.

WHAT IF I HAVE NO TRANSPORTATION?

Transportation assistance is available for individuals wishing to volunteer but who do not drive or do not wish to drive.

WHAT ABOUT INSURANCE COVERAGE?

All enrolled RSVP volunteers are covered by a supplemental accident and liability insurance while they are on their volunteer assignment. This insurance is provided by the program with no cost to enrolled volunteers. If an injury is sustained while a volunteer is on duty, this insurance covers any costs incurred that are not covered by the individual’s personal insurance.

WHERE DO VOLUNTEERS SERVE?

There is a wide variety of opportunities to serve. See the “Volunteer Opportunities” link for specific information on current needs and other volunteer opportunities.

WHY SHOULD I VOLUNTEER?

When you become an RSVP volunteer, you join thousands of volunteers in every state. This national program is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service’s Senior Corp, the federal agency that is helping communities everywhere provide for the needs they have by organizing one of their greatest resources – volunteers! Also, you will make new friends, learn new skills, enrich you life, and statistics show that people who stay active and share their lives with others stay mentally and physically healthier and live longer. What a great bonus while providing much needed assistance!

ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL BENEFITS?

In addition to the insurance coverage, the transportation assistance, and the personal benefits to your health and well being, there is also an annual recognition banquet held each year. This is a time for the community to say thank you for all of the work that has been done throughout the year by the volunteers. Volunteers receive a certificate for the number of hours served and after five years of consecutive service, a plaque is awarded. There is good fellowship, some entertainment, wonderful food and lots of fun enjoyed by everyone.
